We present a novel neighborhood-scoring system to automate descriptive spatial metrics of neighbourhood quality based on geo-location.
We present a novel neighbourhood-scoring system to quantitatively evaluate neighbourhood design quality based on geolocation. The system mines information from various web-based APIs including maps, and environmental services. Collected data is used as input to quantify neighbourhood quality based on five criteria derived from Carlos Moreno’s 15’ City Framework: proximity, density, diversity, and fulfilment. In addition, the system provides descriptive statistical analysis, transportation CO2 emissions estimation, and network-based spatial cluster analysis. This whitepaper outlines the conceptual framework and technical implementation of the system. It also includes a case study demonstration of the system to compare three neighbourhoods in Calgary, Dubai, and Paris.
