DBF CITYPULSE: Generative Planning for “What-if” Urban Diagnostics and Scenarios

CITYPULSE is a diagnostic tool that uses LLMs, geospatial data, citizen personas, and 15-minute city indicators to assess neighborhoods. It provides mobility, amenity, CO2 emissions, and demographic analysis for tailored recommendations.

CITYPULSE is a recent initiative by DBF to research and demonstrate a new software paradigm that democratizes urban analysis. It uses geospatial analysis tools based on the 15-minute city concept, along with custom large-language models (LLMs) and open-source data, to provide customized urban insights through text-based prompts

By considering mobility, amenities, demographics, and other factors, the tool provides custom recommendations for individuals on where to live or visit in a city based on specific personas. Based on these insights, cities can identify ways to improve quality of life and reduce emissions at the neighborhood scale

CITYPULSE utilizes a "Generative Planning" framework that combines LLMs and urban analytics tools to simplify user interaction, dynamically generate tailored insights, and retrieve up-to-date information for enhanced urban analysis

The case study demonstrates how CITYPULSE effectively integrates LLMs with urban analysis tools to turn raw data into actionable insights, supporting informed decision-making. It also highlights the ability of LLMs to simplify user interaction, making urban analysis more accessible through the use of personas and tailored data filtering
